Adopting a dog can be one of the greatest days of your life. Not only do you get a new friend but a companion as well. Adopting a dog from rescue is usually better than adopting from a shelter because the dog is kept in a home with a person or family. The dog’s temperament is known, and it is not traumatized by being abandoned to a shelter.
If you are looking for a dog that has been relatively taken care of for most of its life a rescue is the place for you. Shelters tend to pick up stray dogs with behavioral problems and rather than fix these problems they euthanize the dog.
Rescue houses usually rescue dogs of a specific breed and they make sure that the dogs are healthy, and assess their temperaments. Many dogs that end up at rescue houses are dogs bought on impulse without any prior research. So when the dog becomes too much of a handful for the owner they surrender it to a rescue house.
It is important to make sure if you are adopting a dog from a rescue to research the breed you are choosing to adopt because you do not want to have to surrender the dog for a second time. This may traumatize the dog even more and put them back to square one. So decide on the breed you want check out rescue houses in your area and go adopt.
