Jack Russell Terriers

Jack Russell terriers are wonderful companions as well as energetic working dogs. They are extremely loyal to their masters, intelligent and feisty. These dogs were bred to be hunters and therefore do not take well to the sedate life of a house dog. They love the outdoors and more often than not, they train their owner to them rather than the other way around.

Jack Russell terriers are generally on the small side, white with brown or black markings and their coat is coarse. Trained to fox hunt, they are as much at home attacking a sock as they are a mouse. They are sturdy and tough, and make good pets, especially if you like a rambunctious dog. The Jack Russell name had been used on a number of different terriers over the years but finally came into its own after a lawsuit filed by the Jack Russell Terrier Club of America.

Jack Russells have been adapted to different lifestyles but they still retain their ingrown desire to hunt, and hunt they will, even if it is the house cat they live with. If you want a feisty, loyal, energetic dog you might enjoy having a Jack Russell terrier. If that is not what you are looking for in a dog, perhaps you should consider another breed more suited to your needs.
