Do you wish you had something else in life to love? Perhaps you live alone and are lonely. Perhaps you are an older couple with an empty nest, or a young family just starting a family. Would you consider providing a home for a rescue animal? There are so many rescue animals in shelters or foster homes everywhere that need good permanent homes. They need someone to demonstrate love and companionship and loyalty. Most animals will innately trust and demonstrate loyalty if their owners will also. You can change the life of an animal by showing it that people can be trusted and loyal.
When preparing to adopt a rescue animal, you should determine what kind and what breed of animal you want. Consider the family size, living space, work schedule, and the ages of your children. There are some breeds that do well only in wide open spaces and would not do well in the city. If you are single, working, and living in an apartment, it may be better to get a cat than a dog due to weight restrictions and because some breeds suffer from severe separation anxiety. Prepare your home to receive a new member, especially if you are getting a younger dog. Puppy proof your home as much as possible. Allow the animal to explore its environment after arrival. Don't abandon it too long after just getting it home. Spend time with it and let it get to know you and get acclimated to you. Acquire the necessary bedding, food, and care items you will need for your new pet, but most of all be prepare to provide love.
