Including a pet in a family is a commitment that requires much more than simply purchasing an animal. When choosing a pet, various factors should be considered. For one, time is involved. For example, a fish or a snake may not need the special activities and attention that a mammal will, but feeding and cleaning of its environment is still important and requires time.
Consider where you live. Many apartments, rental properties and communities have restrictions as to inhabitants. Although a caged animal like a canary or hamster is usually permitted, perhaps a pet tarantula or pet ferret may not be. Even a city has codes for pets. Many times pets like horses or ducks may not be permitted to stay in a back yard due to health concerns.
Other members in the home affect pet options. If a lizard is sought, but the prospect terrifies other family members, perhaps a different selection should be made. Also a health issue can limits choices. Allergies are often associated with furry animal, but can also appear as a reaction to feathers or droppings.
With concern to the family economy, pet finances are also important. Once the expense of acquiring your pet are finished, food, health, upkeep and accessories are vital factors. While requirements vary from a jar that has soil from the garden to elaborate pet houses, each pet has a care cost that must be taken into account.
