It is very unfair to the pet world for people to not take the time to have their pets spayed. There are over three million cats and dogs needlessly put to sleep in shelters each year. These animals once belonged to someone. They may have been placed in the shelter due to an unwanted pregnancy, a result of their owners not taking the time to have them fixed. There are more pets in all of the world's shelters than people have as pets in their homes.
The health of your pet can be improved by spaying. The pet will not have future cancers or diseases that happen without spaying. There will also be no mess when the animal goes into heat, which is every couple of weeks for cats and every six months for dogs. Spaying prolongs their lives and helps eliminate unwanted animals in the world. It is proven that by spaying your pet, you will have a happier, calmer, quieter pet. They will be a better companion because they will lose the urge to roam and will stay closer to home. It is only a myth that the pet will gain weight and become lazy after spaying.
Don't let the cost interfere with your decision to help your pet. It is cheaper to spay your pet than to have unwanted animals in shelters. There are organizations available to help fund the procedure. Just call a veterinarian and he will guide you through how the procedure is done and where and how to get funding if needed. Unless you are a professional breeder, you need to be a responsible pet owner. Help and be part of the solution to unwanted animals. Spay your pets and encourage other to do likewise.
