Jack Russell Terriers

The Jack Russell Terrier was bred around the 19th century in England through a breeding program developed by a hunting enthusiast that desired a courageous and energetic dog. These working dogs were aggressive in pursuing their prey, such as foxes, with the determination in digging them out of its den without harming it. The breed is excellent in hunting, tracking, has great agility and is intelligent in learning tricks.

For the regular household, these fun loving dogs are loyal, spirited and very obedient. They truly enjoy playing games and with a numerous amount of different toys. Generally they get along with children as long as they know how to behave with a small dog, as in not teasing or striking the child. They thrive well in small homes or apartments but only with sufficient exercise or they may tend to be a bother needing their long walk or brisk play time. So obedience training could be important as the breed may tend to get bored easily and look to find things around the house to entertain them.

The Jack Russell is predominantly white in color with black and/or tan markings and run between 10” and 15” in height and around 15 pounds. The length of the body is in proportion to the height and is always a compact and muscular form. Since they have such an athletic body, they have the ability to jump up to 5 feet high and due to their natural instincts love to bark and dig.

This happy dog works its way into hearts of many dog lovers with their funny actions and ability in learning tricks. One that is famous for his television role is that of Eddie on the series Frasier who was a vital player of the sitcom.
