There is no question that pets can be a great source of comfort to people. They are always there when you need them and when you want them. But they are also healing. Pets are like a dose of medicine. They can actually help your body to heal when you get sick, or are dealing with a medical problem. Pets hold a lot of healing power just by being with them.
Most of the healing powers that pets have start within the human body. It has been found that just by petting and stroking an animal, it can help lower your blood pressure, reduce pain, and calm the heart rate. This is because simply by petting an animal, you can lower the stress and worries of the world. Because high blood pressure can cause an array of problems in the body, such as strokes and heart attacks, this is a big benefit. And speaking of stress, most people have plenty of it. There is stress from work, family, financial issues, personal problems, and many other sources. Pets are a great way to reduce these stresses. Many people use their pets as therapists. Talking to your pet, and telling them all about your bad day is free. There is no fee to do so, and all pets want in return, is a little love for repayment. Also, many people like to get out and walk their dog, which is always a great source of exercise for the body and mind.
It is no wonder why many medical facilities will allow an animal, usually dogs, to go into the facility to comfort and cheer up the patients. They know that animals have healing powers that people may never completely understand.
