The family dog is a dog with unlimited patience, loads of energy, yet not over rambunctious. Good and bad dogs come in all breeds, so supervision is advised with small children.
The number one family dog today is the Golden Retriever. Bred originally as a hunting dog, he hunts up plenty of couches today. Another hunting dog, the Irish Setter, is an eager to please loyal companion. The water loving family might consider a Labrador Retriever. This dog loves the water, and his endless energy will keep the kids occupied for hours. Everyone loves a Beagle. This little dog has plenty of energy to play and doesn’t mind a little time for a nap in your lap. The Collie is an old family favorite. He requires a lot of grooming, but with the loyalty and good manners of this dog, it is well worth it. For the little dog lovers, the Shih Tzu is a furry little bundle of energy who won't mind a romp in the dirt with the kids. The Pomeranian works well in families with older kids. This dog is also high needs in the grooming department, but a loyal family dog. A family of pugs will keep any family well entertained. Pugs are a loyal, eager to please little dog. They don’t need a lot of grooming.
The family dog comes in all shapes and sizes. Depending on your family's needs, they come ready for a day at the beach or curled up on the couch watching the game.
